PNWH2 Newsletter March 2025

As 2025 unfolds, America’s energy independence is taking center stage while the U.S. hydrogen industry continues to gain momentum and increased bipartisan support. Across the country, investments in hydrogen are strengthening supply chains, creating jobs, supporting rural communities, and ensuring long-term economic growth.
The Pacific Northwest Hydrogen (PNWH2) Hub is at the forefront of this effort. By expanding hydrogen production and infrastructure, our region’s commitment to innovation and energy security is helping drive the nation toward energy independence and advance American energy dominance.
Alongside our project partners, the PNWH2 Hub is actively advancing Phase 1 activities, including planning, permitting, analysis, design and stakeholder engagement. While conversations continue about our nation’s energy goals, we are working closely with a broad coalition of Senators and Representatives to amplify the benefits of our ongoing efforts in the region.
The PNWH2 Hub continues to make steady progress on hydrogen market development initiatives with various end-use industry and transportation sections as we prepare for the negotiation process for Phase 2—the first H2Hub to approach this milestone.
For more, check out recent Hub activity, upcoming events and relevant industry news below, and stay tuned for more as we continue driving the future of hydrogen in the Pacific Northwest.

Energy Department’s Projects Hit List Draws Bipartisan Pushback from Lawmakers
By James Bikales, Josh Siegel, Kelsey Tamborrino & Ben Lefebvre | POLITICO | March 28, 2025
he Energy Department is taking flak from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for considering killing several energy projects funded by the Biden administration.
The pressure from the lawmakers comes as Energy Secretary Chris Wright weighs gutting the clean energy spending that President Donald Trump has blasted as the “green new scam.” But a growing chorus of voices contends the funding is critical for new technologies like hydrogen production and carbon capture — and toward solving the “national energy emergency” that Trump has declared.
Projects at risk of losing funding have gotten backing from Trump’s allies in the oil and gas sector, as well as the lawmakers whose districts would benefit from the investments. And Democrats and some industry groups warn that canceling them could violate the laws that authorized the spending.
How AI Drug Discovery and Green Hydrogen Tech Could Shape the Future
By Cathy Hackl | Forbes | March 21, 2025
It’s tempting to say that data is the be-all and end-all of our technologically driven world. Without it, many AI breakthroughs simply wouldn’t exist. But looking beyond the obvious, there are forward-thinking companies in life sciences, data management, and green energy that are positioning 2025 to be a watershed year for innovation.
While AI and data may capture headlines for their role in transforming industries, green hydrogen is quietly emerging as a key player in the clean energy movement. With growing pressure to decarbonize heavy industries and transportation, green hydrogen, which is produced via electrolysis powered by renewables, has gained traction among both governments and private investors.
