NEPA Information

The NEPA process is part of the PNWH2 Hub’s Phase 1 planning, permitting, and analysis activities.

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was signed into law on January 1, 1970. NEPA requires federal agencies to assess the environmental effects of their proposed actions prior to making decisions.

Using the NEPA process, agencies evaluate the environmental and related social and economic effects of their proposed actions. Agencies also provide opportunities for public review and comment on those evaluations.

The NEPA process is part of the PNWH2 Hub’s Phase 1 planning, permitting, and analysis activities. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) to assess the potential environmental impacts for the proposed projects with the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub. This will inform the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the PNWH2 Hub, including in the states of Washington, Oregon and Montana.
